Irvin M. Korr, Ph.D.
August 24, 1909 - March 4, 2004
Irvin Korr, who was known affectionately to his family and wide circle
of friends as Kim, died quietly and peacefully in the night on March 4th
at the age of 94. Kim was born and grew up in Philadelphia. He was a
graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and he earned his doctorate at
Princeton University. As a physiologist, Kim had a distinguished career as
a researcher, educator and writer in the field of osteopathic medicine. He
maintained an active retirement until late in his life, traveling as an
international lecturer to osteopathic meetings and colleges, as well as
volunteering for several community based committees, for Naropa University
and as a peer counselor at the Boulder County Mental Health Center. In
1999 Kim was one of the first honorees to receive the Boulder Senior Award
recognizing the ongoing efforts of the city's seniors. Always active and
vigorous, as a proponent of individual responsibility for health, healthy
lifestyles and healthy aging, Kim lived up to his expectation of "Having
lived according to the laws of nature, I can expect to die young ... when
I am very old."
Kim loved to hike in the mountains near his home. Always full of vim
and vigor Kim was possessed of a marked sense of humor and he bestowed his
gentle good will on all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Jan
Menely Korr of Boulder; his son David Korr and Jessica Franken of
Greenfield, MA; his step-children and their families, Fran Menely Meer,
Stephen Whitney and Parker Meer of Niwot, CO; Doug, Patty, Wade and Taylor
Menely of Boulder; Chip Menely, Sara Sharer, Max and Helena Menely of
Paonia, CO.
To remember Kim specially, donations may be made to the Memory of Kim
Korr, to the Open Space and Mountain Parks Program, City of Boulder, PO
Box 791, Boulder, CO 80306.
